ACHS, CHS athletes sign scholarships

National Signing Day is a nationwide event, and one that is truly special for high school athletes.
It is a day in which the small percentage of high school student-athletes who are fortunate enough to continue their athletic careers at the college level are recognized.
Last week, student-athletes from both Clinton and Anderson County High Schools signed their letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level. For these student-athletes, this is a moment intertwined with emotion.
While it is exciting for the student-athletes, their families, coaches, and respected high schools, it is also the beginning of a new adventure full of unknowns, which is driven by passion, hope, and love for the game.
This is a big decision for any high school senior, and one that they will never forget.
To these student-athletes: Congratulations on this elite achievement. May your college career be filled with success, happiness, and determination.
May you stay injury-free, and lastly, may you maintain the passion for academics, as well as athletics
Clinton High’s Daniel Cantillion – Cross Country/Track – Milligan College
Dan Cantillion is an impressive student, and an all-around runner.
The newest Buffalo is impressive in the long-distance category, and yet Cantillion has clocked in a 1:08.83 400 Meter Dash.
With a 5:20.34 mile, the Clinton Senior has plenty of success ahead of him, at the college level. The best part — Cantillion still has the entire Spring ahead of him.
In 2019, expect Dan to set new personal records as a Dragon, before heading to Milligan in the fall.
Clinton High’s Danyel Joy – Soccer/Basketball – Trevecca Nazarene University
Danyel Joy might be the most athletic girl at Clinton High School. If it involves competition, expect Danyel to excel.
This multi-sport athlete can do it all. For example, you can find her volleying the free-throw she just made perfectly back into the hands of the referee — yes, with her feet.
As for the unfortunate defender in front of her, Danyel can either cross her up or give her a rake, two scissors, and an in-and-out. The Trojans just received a special athletic talent. Expect Danyel to continue to improve and do great things at the next level.
Anderson County’s Mollie Wheeler – Soccer – Lee University
There is only two words to describe the Flames’ future goalkeeper — brick wall.
Mollie Wheeler has all the attributes needed to be a keeper at the college level, and will continue to improve at Lee. She is a loud, vocal leader.
She is excellent at making angles small for opposing attackers. She is fearless in 1-v-1 situations. She has quick reactions between the sticks. Lastly, she has a drop kick that can easily sail 50-yards. In 2019, Mollie will become a key component of a winning Lee Soccer program that is currently in the NCAA D2 Tournament Final Four, and have made three consecutive NCAA D2 Regional appearances.
Anderson County’s Hannah Bruce – Softball – Maryville College
If there is one thing that seems extremely rare in modern day, it is definitely a pitcher that can hit.
Hannah Bruce can do both and do them well.
The future Scot is a RHP who is hard to face—in the circle or in the batter’s box. For example, Bruce pitched a perfect game last year against Clinton.
She struck out six of the twelve batters she faced, gave up no hits, no runs, and walked none. Oh, and she also had a single to spark a seven-run fourth inning.
Hannah will continue to improve this Spring, before focusing on becoming a key cog in the successful Scots’ Softball machine.
