The Clinton Blaze basketball teams both had a tough day in the gym Saturday at Norwood Middle School.

The Lady Blaze dropped to 8-2 with a 28-12 loss to Cherokee in Kingston.

Lanee Carmichael scored six points and had five rebounds for the Lady Blaze.

The boys team lost to Cherokee 39-12 Saturday. Camden Nelson and Adason Simonds each scored three points for Clinton.

Earlier in the week, Clinton swept Norwood Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The Lady Blaze prevailed 28-1 as Bralee Hall scored 11 points and Ashton Chamblee added nine.

The boys edged Norwood 27-24 as Andrew McAmis scored 15 points. Brian Hall scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Upcoming Schedule: The Blaze and Lady Blaze will both take a brief Thanksgiving break but both squads return to action Friday in the Coalfield Middle School Junior Varsity Thanksgiving Tournament.

The girls open tournament play against Fort Loudon at noon before taking on host Coalfield at 3 p.m. The girls finals and semifinals will be played Saturday. Both semifinals will be at 11 a.m. in separate gyms on campus. The girls championship game is slated to tip off at noon.

The Blaze boys will play Coalfield’s Orange team Friday at 1 p.m. Clinton will take on West Valley, from Knoxville, at 4 p.m.

The Blaze play Saturday against Norwood Middle at 10 a.m. The tournament champion will be crowned in a game at 2 p.m.

The Blaze boys will play at home on Monday, Nov. 26 when they host St. Mary’s of Oak Ridge.

WYSH to broadcast Blaze home game: The Clinton Blaze home game against Campbell County will be aired on WYSH on Thursday, Nov. 29. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. at the Clinton Community Gymnasium. The boys contest will begin at approximately 7 p.m.

Blaze Swimmers win first-ever meet: The Clinton Blaze swim team won its first-ever meet on Tuesday, Nov. 13 when it defeated the Clinton Sharks 101-90 at the Clinton Community Center Pool

Blaze Soccer Clinic: The Blaze Soccer Clinic is underway. The clinic began recently. Both boys and girls can sign up before the next camp session.

Clinic sessions for players in Grades 1-3 are Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Clinton City Football Stadium.

Camp sessions for players in Grades 4-6 are held on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the football stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be held at Clinton City Gym.

The clinic is run by professional soccer player Chris Carroll.

Clinton City Schools Athletic Director E.T. Stamey said that the Blaze is hoping to field both boys and girls soccer teams in the spring of 2019.

“We started doing the clinic to gauge interest in soccer in the community,” Stamey said. “We’ve been doing [Clinton Blaze Athletics] for a couple of years and we’re hoping to have soccer in the spring.”

Time set for National Cross Country Meet: The Elementary and Middle Schools National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park. Races begin at noon. Clinton Blaze runner Laci Percival will compete.

Percival is a fourth grader at Clinton Elementary School and will run a one-mile course.

Blaze Dance Team: The Clinton Blaze has a dance team that performs during basketball games.

Blaze Academic Clubs: The Blaze has a reading club that is open to elementary school students at all three of the city’s elementary schools.

Clinton also has an H20 Science Club, which is open to first graders. It focuses on water sciences and is intended to spark interest in science at an early age.
