Mavericks endure a hard night at Powell High School

Tuesday, Dec. 11 was not a good night for Anderson County High School basketball fortunes during a District 3-AAA doubleheader at Powell.

The night started on a sour note as the Lady Mavs were dominated by the host Lady Panthers 53-37 before the Maverick boys were unable to keep up with the Panthers as they suffered a 54-44 defeat during the nightcap.

Maci Houser and Tea Hickson topped AC’s scoring with seven points apiece. Callie Bowling made two three-pointers while Houser, Hickson and Brooklin McCoy each scored a trey.

The boys’ game found the Panthers go up 14-10 during the first period before the Mavericks came back to make a game of it during the next eight minutes, trailing only 29-28 at halftime. However, Powell regained momentum at the start of the second half as the Panthers’ 13-6 scoring output provided the Panthers a 12-10 advantage starting the stretch run.

Grant Hayes topped the Mavs with 14 points.
