NAACP hosts annual fundraiser

Hughes grew up in Oliver Springs and moved to Oak Ridge more than 30 years ago. Nearly 100 years old, she has lived through many changes that the world and Anderson County have experienced. Her niece, Curd, taught second and third grade in Oak Ridge for more than 30 years and lives in the house where Hughes grew up.
Curd said she graduated with her master’s degree on a Thursday and started teaching on a Monday. She was offered a contract on the spot when she interviewed at Oak Ridge, and never left.
