ACHS squads tame Karns

The Anderson County High School Basketball Lady Mavericks and Mavericks hosted Region Two District 3AAA foe Karns High School last Monday. The Lady Mavs tipped the night off, and hit the Lady Beavers with a 21-3 first quarter deficit. Anderson County would go on to a comfortable 36-13 lead at halftime. The third quarter was renamed the “Maci Houser Clinic”—when the Senior sharpshooter went off for 17 points. Houser’s barrage would lead all scorers, and the Lady Mavs would cruise to an easy 68-24 win over the Lady Beavers.

A rather talented Karns Beavers squad prevented the Anderson County boys from enabling the cruise control. In fact, Anderson County played from behind for almost the entire game. A Karns’ 50-36 third quarter lead would be the largest of the ballgame. However, a 13-2 Mavs’ run cuts the Beavers’ lead to 52-49.

Down the stretch, Anderson County’s Stanton Martin and Eli Varner would each knock down a clutch free throw; with under a minute to play, the Mavs led 61-59. The Anderson County comeback would come to fruition as the Beavers’ last chance desperation heave fell unsuccessful. Harrison Ogburn’s 20-point game-high performance led all scorers, and the Mavs earned a big district victory at home.
