Driver loses control of minivan, hits train car

A Knoxville man was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Monday morning after he lost control of the minivan he was driving and collided into a railway car.

John Oscar Snodgrass, 76, Hickory Hollow Road, Knoxville, was traveling north of US 25W/Clinch Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle while “negotiating a left-hand curve,” traveled up an embankment and collided with stationary Norfolk Southern rail car filled with wood chips.

The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 4.

There were two witnesses to the accident, a Clinton Police Department report said.

The report said Snodgrass left the roadway, drove up the embankment, and traveled some distance along rail road tracks before hitting the train car.

Snodgrass was wearing a seat belt and there was no evidence of alcohol or drug usage. Tests were not administered.

The extent of Snodgrass’ injuries were not listed.

The report stated there was damage on the rail car’s “air brake hose,” as well as “the derailer.”
