The Anderson County Softball Lady Mavericks (3-0, 2-0) have opened up their 2019 campaign undefeated—defeating Oak Ridge, Central, and Catholic.
Those engaged with the TSSAA Softball community know that Halls, Powell, and Anderson County are the District 3-AAA powerhouses. Coming into 2019 with expectations to win, the Lady Mavs have kicked off this season in winning fashion.
Last Monday, Anderson County faced two District 3-AAA opponents, Oak Ridge and Central, before their out-of-district game against Catholic.
For the Lady Mavs and senior pitcher Hannah Bruce, the opening day contest against Oak Ridge would be the perfect way to start the season. Anderson County demolished their cross-county rivals 15-0, and run-ruled the Lady ‘Cats in 2-1/2 innings.
Bruce, a Maryville College commit, could not have started her final season at Anderson County in finer fashion. The Anderson County pitcher faced nine batters and struck out six.
In three innings of play, Bruce threw 41 pitches, gave up no hits, walked none, and no Lady Wildcat reached first base—a perfect game no-hitter.
The Anderson County offense was on fire all night—which is said easily when you only have to bat twice. It did not take long for the Lady Mavs to put runs on the board, as Anderson County batted around in the first inning. By the top of the second, damage was done, as the Lady Mavs led Oak Ridge 7-0.
After Oak Ridge went three-up, three-down in the bottom half of the first, the Anderson County bats went back to work. Again, the Lady Mavs would bat through the order.
Before Oak Ridge could find their first out of the inning, Anderson County had already put three more runs on the board, and led 10-0. In the District 3-AAA 15-0 victory over Oak Ridge, Anderson County accumulated 15 runs in 17 at-bats, on only seven total hits.
Offensively, Leah Freeman, Mallorie Overton, and Jade Richards would lead the Lady Mavs with two RBIs each. While Hannah Bruce, Emilee Fowler, and Jada Reeves all drove in one run each as well.
