Clinton celebrates Arbor Day
City of Clinton public officials stand with Diane Forester, front right, as they receive their flag in recognition of being a Tree City USA member. This is the second year the city has been a Tree City USA. Neighboring city Norris has been a member for 40 years, while Rocky Top became a member last year.
All cities are dedicated to meeting the four core stands, which includes maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. Becoming a member opens the cities up to grants for things like sidewalks and beautification.
Students at South Clinton Elementary created art for the celebration and performed music as well. Each student took home a tree seedling.
