Two Blaze athletes have a stellar day in Knoxville

Two Clinton Blaze track athletes had a stellar day Sunday at the AAU Southeast Regional Meet Sunday at Hardin Valley Academy.

Both Adeline Queener and Kenzlee Hutchison posted solid efforts at the meet, which was twice delayed by inclement weather.

Queener finished second in the 8-and-under 800-meter run. She completed the race in 3 minutes, 31.39 seconds. She finished fifth in a field of 11 in the 200-meter dash. She posted a time of 38.84 seconds.

Hutchison placed second in both the discus (32 feet, 7 inches) and the shot put (18-07.75),

In the preliminaries, she had a person best in both events. She posted a mark of 40-07 in the discus and 19-03 in the shot put.

Skyler Martin also qualified for Sunday’s meet with a win in the 200 and the 4x100 team anchored by Charlotte Hutchison finished fourth in the prelims.

Upcoming School Year: Clinton City Schools athletic director E.T. Stamey has announced tryouts for various fall programs.

Basketball Tryouts: Tryouts for the Blaze and Lady Blaze basketball teams will be held in mid-August.

The girls tryouts will be held Aug. 12 and 14 while the boys will hold their tryouts Aug. 12 and 15.

Dance Team Tryouts: Dance team tryouts on Sept. 12 and 15.

Cross Country Schedule: The 2019 cross country schedule will open with a meet at Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park.

The Blaze will also compete at Cove Lake on Sept. 4. Clinton will run at First Baptist Sevierville in a two-day meet on Sept. 9-10.

They’ll run at Johnson University in Knoxville on Sept. 16. The Elementary/Middle School Championships will be held on Oct. 5.

The Tennessee State Championships are scheduled for Oct. 19. The Southeastern Regionals are slated for Nov. 16. The campaign culminates with the National Championships on Dec. 7.

Blaze Academic Clubs: In addition to its athletics programs, CCS has invested in both a reading society and H2O science clubs.

These programs were successful last year and Stamey announced that they will continue in 2018-19.

Track Renovations: Stamey said that improvement on the Blaze’s home track at Clinton Elementary School are planned soon
