Two lose freedom on July 4 after arrest

Around noon on July 4, Clinton Police pulled over a 2008 Honda Civic for driving 58 miles-per-hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone on Clinch Avenue.

Four passengers — Brandy Schmoldt, 40, Tammy Gibbs, 55, Dante Cranford, 42, and Bobby Wallen, 44 — were in the vehicle.

Cranford was driving and provided the officer with a Kentucky state identification but stated that he did not have a license because it was suspended.

Schmoldt informed the officer that the vehicle was hers but that she did not have insurance on it.

Cranford’s license was suspended for failing to appear in Knoxville City court in 2003. The officer also learned that Wallen had an active felony theft warrant for his arrest out of Sevier County, according to the incident report, and an active felony drug possession warrant for his arrest out of Lexington, Kentucky.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a black purse in the middle of the backseat. Inside were two red cut straws containing white powdery residue, one purple cut straw containing white powdery residue and two glass pipes containing burnt residue on the end.

Wallen admitted that all the items belonged to him. Cranford was taken into custody and charged with driving on a suspended license, financial responsibility and speeding.

Wallen was taken into custody for his two outstanding warrants and was also charged with fugitive from justice and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility.
