She’ll be in both the shot put and discus competitions.

The halls at Clinton’s elementary schools are quiet now but the 2019-20 school year looms around the corner and the Clinton Blaze, which will begin its third year, will soon have tryouts for its fall sports teams.

Clinton City Schools athletic director E.T. Stamey has announced tryouts for various fall programs.

Basketball Tryouts: Tryouts for the Blaze and Lady Blaze basketball teams will be held in mid-August. The girls tryouts will be held Aug. 12 and 14 while the boys will hold their tryouts Aug. 12 and 15.

Dance Team Tryouts: Dance team tryouts on Sept. 12 and 15.

Cross Country Schedule: The 2019 cross country schedule will open with a meet at Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park.

They’ll run at Johnson University in Knoxville on Sept. 16. The Elementary/Middle School Championships will be held on Oct. 5.

The Tennessee State Championships are scheduled for Oct. 19. The Southeastern Regionals are slated for Nov. 16. The campaign culminates with the National Championships on Dec. 7.

The Blaze will also compete in a practice meet on Aug. 29 at the Songbird Course.

Stamey said that tryouts for the cross country team will be announced soon.

Blaze Academic Clubs: In addition to its athletics programs, CCS has invested in both a reading society and H2O science clubs.

These programs were successful last year and Stamey announced that they will continue in 2019-2020.

Track Renovations: Stamey said that improvements on the Blaze’s home track at Clinton Elementary School are planned soon.
