It’s ‘scrimmage’ season
Clinton hosts Lenoir City while Mavs travel to Rhea County
Clinton’s football team jogged onto the field Friday to scrimmage against Lenoir City. Clinton scored one touchdown, but the scrimmage was set up less like a formal game and closer to a series of practice drills with the two teams competing with one another.
Clinton’s head coach, Randy McKamey, thought the scrimmage had its good moments and bad.
“Our quarterback did a great job running the offense,” said Mckamey, “and our offensive line was great. We just struggled to hang onto the football. We have three fullbacks and all three fumbled, so obviously that’ll be something to be worked on in practice.
Clinton’s defense held Lenoir City from scoring during the scrimmage, showing off their improvement under new defensive coordinator, Corey Boatman.
“Honestly the team chemistry is just really good. They’re all out there playing hard for each other and it’s comforting to see,” said McKamey.
There was one injury for Clinton, a strained hip flexor.
Anderson County drove to Rhea County for a scrimmage against the Eagles. Their starting players played for five series and scored each time, with three through passing and two through runs.
“Our running backs did a fantastic job,” said Athletic Director Gary Terry. “We were able to run and throw the football and our front guys did a fantastic job blocking.
Terry said the scrimmage really showed off how promising the Mavs are looking this year.
“Really excited for our team. We kept them in and they played real physical football, which is what we ask them to do.”
Anderson County’s Defense, lead by Stone Cummings and Russ Lindsey, looked particularly impressive.
Anderson County had no injuries, which Terry was particularly happy about.
“When you come away with no injuries, that’s a great scrimmage. That’s a winner.”
