Lady Mavs ‘upset’ by Kings Academy, beat Grainger
Anderson County played Kings Academy (KA) and Grainger County this week, playing Kinds Academy on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Grainger County on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The Lady Mavs won handily against Grainger County, winning all three volleyball sets handily, with Grainger only managing 17 points in their best game.
The heartbreaker came in their game against King’s Academy, who pulled ahead early in a close set that ended 25-21 in favor of KA.
After that, the Lady Mavs managed to rally and cinch the next set, with the final score being 25-20 in favor of Anderson County. In the third set, KA eked out an early lead, putting themselves up by three from before Anderson County served.
That set ended 25-15 in favor of King’s Academy.
The fourth set, again, almost reversed the score, with Anderson County pulling a three point lead from the beginning, and winning the set 25-13.
Although the girls still played hard, four sets of hard volleyball is exhausting, and things were starting to lag.
The final set, if one had watched the last four, could almost be predicted from the start, with Kings Academy pulling a two point lead from the start after Anderson County’s loss of a rally followed by another point from KA’s serve.
Just like the last four sets, the team that managed even a small lead early on ended up securing the final set with a score of 15-10 against Anderson County, and leaving the final score at 3-2.
Anderson County plays Jefferson County at home on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
