Lady Mavs earn three-game sweep at the net against Gibbs
Anderson County High School’s Lady Mavericks beat out Gibbs at home on Thursday, Sept. 26. The final score was 3-0.
The game was incredibly fast-paced and some of the longest rallies of the season, with intense play on both sides.
There were breathtaking saves, spikes, and kills.
Despite how one-sided the score ended up being, it was clear the two teams were close in skill level. Gibbs made Anderson County work for the win and put them on ice. More than once, they hit hot streaks and they were perfectly capable of catching up.
The first set finished 25-16 in favor of Anderson County. After a quick eight-point lead gained in the beginning, it really seemed to cause Gibbs to sag until a timeout.
The loss of that first set took the wind out of Gibbs sails, though and it was their closest of the night.
The next two were 25-13, and 25-15 respectively.
That being said, it’s always remarkable to see two well-coached, well-practiced teams face off. The teamwork is better, the game is more exciting, and, ultimately, no matter who the victor is – the victory is more satisfying.
This win leaves the Lady Mavs at an astounding 29-9 for the season.
