Unitarians offering free community meal Dec. 27

Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church volunteers will be serving ham and homemade split pea soup, toasted cheese sandwiches, brownies and fresh fruit at the Stone Soup Free Community Meal from 5-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27.

Dine-in or takeout will be available in the church social hall.

Nonperishable family friendly groceries will be available for free to anyone in need.

The church is at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike (close to traffic light No. 2) in Oak Ridge

“It has been our pleasure to serve guests during our community meals this year,” said coordinator Jinx Watson. “We look forward to seeing our regular guests and meeting new ones as we embark on our 10th year in 2020. We wish them all a very happy new year.

“Everyone is welcome, so bring your family, friends and neighbors or just come yourself. It’s also a great place to come if you just don’t feel like cooking or would like to meet new people.”

The church’s community meal is held on the final Friday of every month.

Food for the community meals is provided by the Oak Ridge Unitarian congregation and the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge. Kroger Marketplace is the generous contributor of fresh fruit.
