Mavs get win after rocky start

Anderson County’s boys won their first game in the Christmas tournament against Apostolic Christian 38-35.

But it started out rocky for the Mavericks after they finished the first quarter down by eight points.

After the first few minutes, the Mavericks’ starters came out of the game and the second-stringers took up their places. The Eagles quickly took a strong lead against the replacements and, before halftime, the starting Mavericks resumed their place on the court.

Despite their strong showing against the second-stringers, the Eagles had a hard time keeping up with the Mavericks and Anderson County quickly closed the gap. Despite that, the Eagles kept the Mavericks on ice the rest of the game, playing a strong defense to keep the Mavericks on their toes and constantly adjusting.

Ultimately, though, the small private school couldn’t close the final gap and lost to the Mavericks by only three points for the final score of 38-35.
