Anderson County’s Lady Mavs made up for their loss against Cumberland Gap High School by decisively beating Gibbs High School 41-35 on Friday, Dec. 20, in their second game of the Christmas tournament.

Anderson County was vicious on its rebound game, causing multiple jump balls, although with TSSAA rules, they resulted in alternating possessions instead.

Gibbs suffered from turnovers both from steals by the Lady Mavs and mistakes of their own, such as repeatedly stepping out of bounds while running. The Lady Mavericks’ aggressive play did hinder them slightly, as they finished the second half with 10 fouls to Gibbs’ four.

Luckily for Anderson County, Gibbs didn’t overly capitalize on those foul shots.

Whether that aggressive play will continue to develop or whether it’ll be swapped out as the young team matures is anyone’s guess.

But for this particular game, it served them well enough.

Daniel Sexton, assistant coach for the Lady Mavericks, kept it simple when asked for his thoughts on the game.

“We got the W, baby. Can’t say anything else.”
