Clinton lost to Carpenter Middle School in the district tourney on Saturday by eight points. The final score was 44-36.
Head Coach Ken White said the kids played hard, despite the team being down to only eight players.
“Overall, we went 20-8,” said White. “We didn’t seed very well in the district tournament. We won all the games we were supposed to win, but lost a lot of kids from disciplinary actions. I thought we could be top two or three seed in the district and we ended up tying for sixth, but still, anytime you win 20 ball games, it’s a good year. We won our preseason tournament, and that was awesome.”
White said he was really impressed with multiple players, including Teegan Bolinger, Wesley Phillips, Carter Nelson, Bryson White, Javon Rodd and Anthony Anderson, but especially with Braylon Taylor.
Speaking of Taylor, White said:
“He didn’t get to play that much, but he always showed up every day. He improved a whole lot, and really grew through the year.”
Still, White said he’s very proud of the team.
“We’ve had a lot of adversity, but they all took in on the chin. They haven’t done anything to be ashamed of this year.”
The Hawks will graduate all but one of their varsity players this spring, meaning they’ll be rebuilding next year.
