More than 800 students compete in 4-H Public Speaking Contest
Sixty-one move on to compete for county honors
A total of 802 youth competed in this year’s Anderson County 4-H Public Speaking Contest.
With such tight competition, just being chosen to advance to the county contest was quite an accomplishment for students, as well as the teachers and parents who supported their efforts.
Sixty-one students competed for county honors during the county 4-H Public Speaking Contest, which was sponsored by Anderson County Farm Bureau and hosted at Second Baptist Church.
Top honors were awarded as follows:
Fourth grade: first, Katie Wade; second; Owen Tharp; third, Leah Goins
Fifth grade: first, Kenny Trace Humphrey; second, Parker Davis; third, Danni Leigh Conder
Sixth grade: first, Gideon Chandler; second, Cody Wallace; third, Lily Meyers
Seventh grade: first, Wesley Chandler, second, Clara Tomlinson; third, Raelyn Leach
Eighth grade: first, Belle Smith; second, Maggie Irwin; third, Grace Allen
Senior High Extemporaneous Speaking: first, Jordan Bowling; second, Lily Vandagriff; third, Avery Chandler
Senior High Prepared Speaking: first, Avery Chandler; second, Jordan Bowling; third, Lily Vandagriff
Senior High Overall: first, Jordan Bowling; second, Lily Vandagriff; third, Avery Chandler
Tenth grade regional contest delegate: Lily Vandagriff
Eleventh grade regional contest delegate: Bonnie Chandler
