Clinton’s Tom Bailey is ‘the Tractor Man’

  • Tom Bailey and his Farmall International Harvester - Elanora Edwards

  • Tom Bailey gives a ride to Evie, 7, Jude, 5, and Aubrey, 5. - Elanora Edwards

Above: Tom Bailey, 83, who with his wife, Betty, resides on Riverside Drive, Clinton, was taking three great-grandchildren for a beautiful Sunday afternoon ride. The kids are, from left, Evie, 7, Jude, 5, and Aubrey, 5. Tom was pulling the cars with a Cub Cadet Hydro. He made the cars with 55-gallon barrels and other materials he bought from a tractor store. The Baileys moved to Clinton a year ago from Crossville, where he worked 10 years as a superintendent for Tennessee Asphalt Co., and, among other activities, was a member of a tractor club. Before Crossville, they lived in Norris, and Tom was a superintendent for A.B. Long Co., which built highways in the region. They returned to Anderson County to be closer to their children and their families. Right: Bailey has owned several tractors through the years, at one time having eight of them. Now he has two, one of them being a red Farmall International Harvester that he’s had since he was 13.
