Ragan named to Committee of Emergency Powers

State Rep. John Ragan (R-Oak Ridge) this week was appointed to a new joint ad hoc committee to study the current authority granted to the executive branch and the courts with regard to emergency powers.

The committee will report back prior to the beginning of the 112th General Assembly.

The 17-member panel was created by Speaker Sexton and Lt. Gov. McNally at the request of members from both legislative bodies.

Their efforts will help support subsequent governors, while providing more clarity regarding the powers of our judicial and executive branches, should similar, unprecedented events like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic occur again.

Ragan lives in Oak Ridge and represents Tennessee House District 33, which includes part of Anderson County.
