One killed, charges ‘may be’ pending in Labor Day fatality

A two-car accident on Lake City Highway in Anderson County Labor Day afternoon, Sept. 7, left one person dead and two people injured, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Blood tests to screen for alcohol and drugs were conducted, as is standard procedure in all fatal Tennessee traffic accidents.

The crash happened shortly after noon, THP Trooper Maleah Human reported.

The reports states one vehicle driven by 20-year-old Landon Bryant of Clinton, heading south (toward Clinton) crossed the center line and into the path of a northbound car driven by 77-year-old Donald Douglas of Rocky Top.

The two-car collision left both cars in the roadway. The THP report said a passenger in Douglas’s car, 73-year-old Margaret Douglas of Rocky Top, was killed in the crash. The trooper’s report indicates that she had not been wearing a seat belt. The report stated both drivers were wearing seatbelts and also says charges could be pending against both drivers.
