Blaze cross country competes at Melton Hill Classic
The top Blaze finisher in the elementary school section was fifth-grader Uriyah Pickett, who completed the mile course in 7 minutes, 41 seconds. The top Lady Blaze finisher was Corryn May. She posted a time of 9:31
In the middle school meet, Clinton’s Isaiah Williams completed the two-mile course in 16:38.
Cross Country Schedule: The Area Championships are on Oct.10 and the State Championships are scheduled for Oct. 24.
Schedule change: The meets that were set for for Sept. 28-29 at Johnson University in Knoxville will be rescheduled for a later date.
Tennis Clinic: The dates for the Clinton Blaze fall tennis clinic have been set. The camp will be held on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the tennis courts at Lakefront Park. Sessions continue Sept. 8 and run through Oct. 6 with a makeup date slated for Oct. 13 if necessary.
The clinic is open to fifth- and sixth-graders. Cost is $25 and players will receive a t-shirt.
Clinic instructors are Ernie Brooks and Megan Flora.
Brooks is a Clinton native who ran track at Tennessee Tech and implemented the USTA Tennis Program for the Boys and Girls Club. He played league tennis for more than four decades.
Flora, a teacher at North Clinton Elementary School, played club tennis at Lee University after her high school career at Knoxville Catholic.
The Clinton Blaze Athlete of the Week Presented by C&D Printing: The athlete of the week for the week of Sept. 14 is Savannah Irwin. She competes in cross country and is a student at Clinton Elementary School.
