See you at the polls, and vote ‘YES’

EDITOR:

As many of us know, early voting for the [Nov. 3] general election has begun. And while many of us are aware of the candidates on the ballot, I am discovering that some may not be aware of the referendum included.

I am referring to the retail package store referendum that is on the ballot for the citizens of the city of Clinton. This will allow retail package stores to sell alcoholic beverages within the city of Clinton.

Currently in Anderson County, there are liquor stores in Oak Ridge, Andersonville, and Rocky Top. Yet Clinton, a city with a population of over 9,000, has not a single retail package store. As someone who believes in shopping and supporting local businesses, [I believe] it does no good for me to spend money outside of the city. I would much rather have my tax dollars go towards the city that I am proud to call home.

By voting for retail package stores within the city of Clinton, we are opening a window of opportunity for more businesses to come to the community. With economic growth comes more opportunities for jobs, housing, and retail development. This should be something we all want to see happen in our community. We all want to see Clinton be the best that it can be.

Early voting is happening now and ends on Oct. 29. Election Day is Nov. 3. See you at the polls, and vote YES to permit retail package stores within the city of Clinton.

Sincerely,

Hannah Massey
