Anderson County Schools are back in class as 2021 begins

The Anderson County School System went to virtual classes the last four days of school in 2020.

On Tuesday, students returned to brick-and-mortar classes.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues its fall/winter surge, several items of note have been passed on by the school system.

First, there was a memo from Anderson County School System nurses:

“If your child has tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case outside of school during the winter break, please contact your school nurse on Monday, Jan. 4. Documentation will need to be completed to share with the health department. Your school nurse will give you an estimated return-to-school date.

“Please call or email the nurse at your child’s school. For your student’s school nurse email information go to acs.ac/Domain/214.”

Anderson County Director of Schools Tim Parrott reached out to parents during the winter break.

Sent Dec. 31, 2020, Parrott wrote:

“Dear ACS Families, Staff, and Students —

“I hope you are having a great Christmas break and are getting some well-deserved rest. Hey, we even had a white Christmas this year. I guess even the weather had to be different this year.

“I am not sad to see 2020 go, but I am excited to start a new year. ‘Thank You’ does not seem like enough to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of our students, parents, principals, teachers, staff, nurses, and bus drivers for everything you did to make first semester a success. As the saying goes, ‘We built the plane as we were flying it,’ and in doing so we learned a lot. We were able to safely provide both in-person and virtual instruction to our students.

“When students return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, we will be resuming in-person and virtual instruction. All safety precautions will remain in place and we will monitor cases and close contacts that may have occurred during break. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working together to provide the educational opportunities and support for Every Student, Every Day.

“We are here to support you and your child as we continue this journey. With your help, we can and will make this semester a success. Make sure to visit our website and social media often for updated information. As always, feedback is welcome, feel free to email me anytime at: tparrott@acs.ac
