Traffic accident cut power in Oak Ridge

The city of Oak Ridge was impacted by widespread power outages Friday after a truck hit a electricity transmission tower at the intersection of South Illinois Avenue and Union Valley Road.

Traffic was backed up for miles and drivers were being redirected at the time.

Power had been restored to all Oak Ridge Electric customers by Monday morning. South Illinois Avenue has reopened.

The outage happened just before 4:30 p.m. Friday. Crews worked to get power back up and running as soon as possible.

City of Oak Ridge Electric Department phone lines were affected by the outage.

The driver of the truck involved in the crash and its passenger sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

Both were transported to local hospitals and later released.
