CHS Dragons still looking for right mix

The Clinton HighSchool baseball Dragons had a rough week, with two hard losses to Knoxville Catholic (14-0) and Dobyns-Bennett (15-3) before dropping to Greeneville 8-7.

In the game against Knoxville Catholic, Colby Holbrook led on the mound before being relieved by James Cloud for two innings. Holbrook finished with 11 first-pitch strikes, while Cloud finished with six, along with two strikeouts.

In the next game against Dobyns-Bennett, the Dragons lost the lead in the second inning, giving up seven runs as they struggled to score.

Daniel Burke led the Dragons at the plate with two hits, while Ethan Tinker and Mac Lowe pitched.

Lowe finished with 12 first-pitch strikes and a single strikeout, while Tinker finished with nine first-pitch strikes.

The Dragons played Greeneville late Saturday afternoon, giving up two runs in the first inning and a single in the second before finally getting on the board in the third inning.

They failed to catch up even as Greeneville struggled to stay ahead. Three runs at the top of the seventh inning put the Dragons within reach of tying the game, but, unfortunately, the Dragons couldn’t manage the final run they needed.

Blake Lowe, Connor Moody, and Daniel Burke all finished with two hits apiece. Lowe finished with three RBIs, while Lowe and Burke finished with two apiece. Larey Holmes led the team on the mound, finishing with 11 first-pitch strikes and two strikeouts before being relieved by Blake Lowe for two innings, who finished with five first- pitch strikes.
