Mattress store opening July 9 in Centre Plaza in Clinton
Jeremy James and his wife, Sharon, are opening Mattress By Appointment on July 9 in the outlying strip center between a nail salon and The UPS Store at 1115 N. Charles G. Seivers Blvd, Jeremy James said.
The store is moving into the space that was the longtime office of Clinton State Farm agent Bob Hamby, who died in May 2019.
Last Saturday, James and his wife were doing some interior remodeling in the building in preparation for opening.
James said he recently retired from the U.S. Navy after 24 years of service. He and his family live in Knoxville.
He said his whole family will be involved in the mattress business. Besides his wife, that includes sons Weston, 23, and Caleb, 20, and daughter Haley, 17.
He said mattress brands the store will sell include Sealy, Serta and Simmons Beautyrest.
Mattress By Appointment is a franchise-style business based in Greenville, South Carolina, which claims to have been in business more than 10 years and to have more than 500 locations in the United States alone.
On its dealer-recruitment website, MattressByAppointment.com/careers, the company says: “We are completely different [from] a traditional retail store. Just as the name of our company says, we are selling mattresses to consumers by appointment.
“Say goodbye to high-rent retail locations and 8-12 hour workdays while you sit around waiting for customers to walk through the door.
“Mattress By Appointment Dealers enjoy the freedom to be their own boss, set their own hours, [have] job security in a recession-proof industry, and [have] the ability to make above average income.”
There are other, similar mattress sales concepts with locations in Knoxville area, including Box Drop Mattress, which opened a Clinton store in January 2020 in the Tanner Place shopping center.
