‘Stronger together’ program aims to bring seniors together with music and fun

If you are a senior citizen (60 and over) who likes to sing and spend time with friends, then this is the opportunity you might have been waiting for.

“Stronger Together, a performing group for seniors, will hold its inaugural meeting from 1–3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Anderson County Senior Center.

Melody Jones, who is organizing the program said, “This kind of performance group is not my original idea. Instead, I was inspired several years ago to organize such a group after watching a 2007 British documentary titled, ‘Young at Heart.’ Since that time I have kept that dream to establish such a group. I am not employed by the county. Like many who lead programs at senior centers, I am a volunteer.”

“Stronger Together represents a group of seniors, all enjoying being together, making music, and reminding each other that we are still contributing members of our community, and having a blast,” Jones said.

“After the inaugural meeting, we will meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 1-3 p.m .at the center,” she said.

“Our musical repertoire will be vast. We will sing all kinds of music. And we will be performing at the center and at venues throughout the area.”
