Remembering ‘The Bridge’

  • Cousins Dickie and Eddie McGhee and Betsy Robinson

Cousins Dickie and Eddie McGhee are standing in what was their front yard, now Rusty Wallace Chevrolet. Their childhood friend Betsy Robinson is standing with them. Betsy lived in Anderson Heights subdivision, and her back yard backed up to the old bridge, where the neighborhood kids played under the bridge. The McGhees’ property was 200 feet wide on South Main Street and went all the way to the river. The Rowing Club Building and part of the ballfield are on the property, now the city park. The Lewallen Bridge (Green Bridge) was built the year Eddie, Dickie, and Betsy were born in 1938. They are 1956 graduates of Clinton High School and all still live in Clinton today.
