Scott Rhea honored with distinguished service award

The Tennessee Association of School Business Officials Board of Directors announced Nov. 18 that Scott B. Rhea is the 2021 recipient of the James D. McCollough Distinguished Service Award.

The award recipient is voted on by the membership, and the honor is given to those who are deemed to have have provide exemplary service to the organiation.

The TASBO Board of Directors coordinates an annual conference that brings together more than 300 school business officials from across the state of Tennessee to share ideas and best practices, and participate in professional development.

The conference, held in Murfreesboro, offers approximately 70 educational sessions, and is made possible each year by vendor partners, conference attendee registration fees, and more than $80,000 in business partner sponsorships.

“Rhea has been instrumental in leading our organization and we are grateful for his continued leadership and service to TASBO,” the group said in the announcement.

He has previously served in the capacities of president, past president, vice president, officer and board member.

“Mr. Rhea’s pride and joy is his wife Sarah and their daughter Gabriella,” the release said.

He currently serves as the chief financial officer for Clinton City Schools.

Rhea holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, a master’s in special education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and an education specialist degree in education administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.

Rhea has also earned the designation of certified county finance officer.

Rhea said he was moved by the nomination, and in his acceptance remarks said that it was humbling and an honor to be named this year’s recipient of the award.

“You will not meet a man more dedicated, passionate, and caring that truly commits 100-percent of himself to all that he does personally or professionally than Scott Rhea,” the release said.
