Jason Deel and wife buy Nashville Auction School
Clinton auctioneer and real-estate broker Jason Deel and his wife, Natalie Deel, have purchased Tennessee’s only auction school, along with partners from Clarksville.
Jason Deel said Monday that he and his partners will officially take over the Nashville Auction School on Jan. 3, and that he and his wife will be running the school mostly from their Clinton offices.
They will be aided by their new partners in the school, Shane and Amanda McCarrell of Clarksville, Deel said.
He said the two couples are buying the Tullahoma-based auction school from Rhessa and Wendall Hanson. The school was founded in 1964 by Buford Evans, according to its website, learntoauction.com.
The official headquarters of the school will be moved to the Clarksville area from Tullahoma, Deel said, but its auctioneer courses will be taught online, making it a virtual school.
Thousands of students from all 50 states have utilized the training offered at Nashville Auction School over the years, either those seeking to become auctioneers, or current auctioneers who needed continuing education courses to maintain their licenses through online and in-person courses, Deel said.
“There is an energy and excitement in the auction industry today that is fueled by young and competent auction professionals” Rhessa Hanson said in a release. “The McCarrells and Deels exemplify this enthusiasm.”
Deel said the Nashville Auction School provides continuing education courses to clients in Tennessee as well as across the nation, and has the basic training courses needed for people to obtain auctioneer licenses in the states where licenses are required. Some states, including California, have no licensing for auctioneers, he said.
“It’s an important institution,” Deel said of the Nashville Auction School. “It’s the only academy of learning for auctioneers in the state of Tennessee. If there’s no auction school, 4,000 auctioneers [in Tennessee] can’t get continuing education. We have to have continuing education just like doctors, attorneys and Realtors do.”
He said that he got to know the current owners through the state auctioneers’ association.
“When they decided to retire, they reached out to us,” Deel said. “They are veterans like Natalie and I are.”
Although the school’s official address will be Clarksville, the Deels will not be leaving Clinton, Jason Deel said. “We will be running things from here.”
