The Clinton Lady Dragons wrapped up 2021 with two wins in the Harriman Christmas Tournament.

On Tuesday, the Lady Dragons beat Midway 48-46.

“We moved the ball quite a bit,” said Alicia Phillips, head coach of the Lady Dragons. “Our press in the second half really helped us, but we had some big shots by Bailey Burroughs, Sydney Herrell, and Ally York as well.”

The two teams played to an 11-11 tie in the first quarter as Bailey Burroughs dropped in five points while Sydney Herrell added a 3-pointer and Ally York added a basket to keep the game even. Clinton managed to eke out a two-point lead at the half at 28-26 as Belle Starnes chipped in five points to join the trio of Burroughs, Herrell, and York in the scoring column.

The Lady Waves surged into the lead in the third quarter at 40-37 as York and Starnes added 3-pointers to go with three free throws by Burroughs to keep Clinton close.

The Lady Dragons reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter as their defense held Midway to just six points. Herrell added another trey and York scored six points to help propel them to the hard-fought win.
