Thackerson, Garner set marks for red hot Dragons

The Clinton Dragons destroyed visiting Seymour 90-45 last Tuesday and set a couple of records along the way.

Jackson Garner knocked down 11 3-pointers for a new single-game school record, and Trace Thackerson set a new single-game record with 22 assists.

Clinton got out to a 21-16 first-quarter lead on the hot shooting of Garner, Jeremiah Blauvelt, Rishon Bright, and Lane Harrison. All four finished the game in double-figure scoring. They built their lead at the half to 39-28.

The Dragons got major separation in the third quarter as they exploded for 28 points and held the Eagles to just five points. In the game, Clinton scored 33 points off of turnovers — 31 points in transition. They forced 19 turnovers and had 16 steals.

The Dragons built their lead even more in the fourth quarter as they cruised to the win.

Garner led all scorers with 35 points, while Blauvelt had 17, Bright added 14 and Harrison scored 10.

Clinton won at Riverdale (near Murfreesboro) Monday night, 85-60. No game stats were available at press time.

Clinton will travel to Fulton on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game was postponed from last Thursday due to inclement weather.

The Dragons (14-1, 3-0 in district) will host district and crosstown rival Anderson County (9-7, 0-3 in district play) on Friday and travel to Cocke County on Monday. Tip-off for each game is 7:30 p.m.
