Hardin Valley outlast Lady Mavericks
The Anderson County Lady Mavericks dropped a back-and-forth game to visiting Hardin Valley by a score of 69-55 last Tuesday evening.
The visitors took a 17-11 lead in the first quarter as Kylee Alvis posted eight of the points for the Lady Mavs in the quarter, which included a pair of 3-pointers. In the second quarter, Anderson County responded in a big way as Alvis, Lydia Meldrum, and Jaylynn Bullock each knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. Shelby Kelly and Emily Mustard also scored to help give the Lady Mavs a 27-26 halftime lead.
Unfortunately for Anderson County, the third quarter saw a massive reversal of fortune as the Lady Hawks put 25 points on the board and held the Lady Mavs to just nine points to take a 51-36 lead.
Anderson County rallied somewhat in the fourth quarter as Alvis scored seven points while Meldrum and Mustard each scored six, but it was not nearly enough.
“We got outscored by 16 points,” said Mitch Cupples, head coach of the Lady Mavs. “We had a terrible quarter and basically lost the game in the third quarter.”
Alvis led all scorers with 24 points, and Meldrum added 13.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. They host Oliver Springs on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Lady Mavs will host Northview Academy on Monday and travel to Oliver Springs on Tuesday. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
