Mavs handle Bobcats, but fall to Scott

On Tuesday, the Anderson County basketball Mavericks won 62-54 at Oliver Springs.

The Bobcats took the early lead, but the Mavs roared back in the second quarter, welcoming Connor Martin back to the lineup, as they took a 27-23 halftime lead. They extended the lead to 40-29 in the third quarter as Martin dropped in a game-high 21 points. The Bobcats made a late push but fell short.

On Friday, the Mavs fell to visiting Scott by a score of 77-68.

Anderson County got off to a great start, taking an 18-9 lead in the first quarter and played the Highlanders even in the second quarter to lead 34-24 at the half.

Scott came out on fire in the third quarter as they rode the scoring of Trey Morrow (game high 29 points) and Luke West (24 points) to pull within one at 49-48. The Highlanders outscored the Mavs 28-19 down the stretch to pull out the win.

Martin led Anderson County with 19 points while Carter Nelson added 14 points and Brandon McGhee had 12.

The Mavs (11-9, 0-5 in district play) return to action on Friday night when they visit district rival Halls. They travel to Gibbs on Tuesday. Tip-off for both games is 7:30 p.m.
