The Clinton Dragons traveled to Scott Friday and won 73-60 to go unbeaten in regular-season district play.

“It was a great win,” said Chris Lockard, head coach of the Dragons. “We were able to go undefeated in the district in the regular season and that’s a good feeling.”

After the teams played to a 17-17 tie in the first quarter in front of a packed and loud gymnasium, the Dragons pulled into a 38-28 lead at the half as Jackson Garner, Rishon Bright, Lane Harrison, and Trace Thackerson led the way in scoring.

The Dragons built their advantage to 58-44 in the third quarter and their defense managed to hold down the high-scoring Highlander offense for the rest of the game.

“I thought we shared the ball well,” Lockard said. “We had four players in double figures [scoring]. Defensively, we played pretty well. They [Scott] had two kids score 52 of their 60 points. Trey Morrow and Luke West are extremely good players,” Lockard said.

“My only issue is that we were ahead 17 at one point late in the third quarter. I called a timeout and told the boys we need two stops and two scores,” Lockard said.

“We could then put it in coast and push it [the lead] on out or keep it at the 20-point mark. We relaxed a little early … They cut into the lead and we were still able to win by 13. We’ve got to continue to improve in certain areas,” he continued.

Garner led the Dragons with 29 points while Bright added 12 and Harrison and Thackerson each chipped in 11 points.

Thackerson also registered a triple double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists as well.

The Dragons (19-2, 6-0 in district) host Hardin Valley Academy Thursday and Oak Ridge Friday. They travel to Powell on Monday, Feb. 7.

Tip-off for all three games is set for 7:30 p.m.
