Lady Dragons earn testy win at Scott

The Clinton Lady Dragons clinched the regular season district title with a 49-44 win at Scott Friday night.

The Lady Dragons went up 12-7 in the first quarter only to see the Lady Highlanders rally to take a 23-20 lead at the half. Clinton answered the bell in the second half, fighting back to tie the game at 36-36.

Sarah Burton, Ally York and Belle Starnes provided the scoring in the third quarter. The Lady Dragons pulled ahead in the fourth quarter as York knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, giving her four for the game. Burton, Starnes, and Bailey Burroughs made their free throws down the stretch and the Lady Dragons took the win and the regular season district title, meaning they will have the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament.

Burton led all scorers with 25 points while York added 12 points.

The Lady Dragons (13-7, 5-1 in district play) host Hardin Valley Academy Thursday and Oak Ridge on Friday. They visit Powell on Monday, Feb. 7.
