Burton hits 2,000
But Lady ’Cats take win in rivalry match up
The biggest highlight for Clinton was that Sarah Burton scored her 2,000th career point.
The Lady Wildcats took a 16-10 lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Dragons answered with a big second quarter from Burton, who dropped in 13 of Clinton’s 15 points to cut the Oak Ridge lead to 27-25 at the half.
Neither team generated a great deal of offense in the third quarter as Burton accounted for all six of the Lady Dragon’s points. But Clinton cut the Lady Wildcats’ lead to 32-31. The fourth quarter was a see-saw battle as Ally York knocked down a 3-pointer and added six points but Oak Ridge was able to eke out enough points to come away with the win.
“Oak Ridge is very similar to Fulton in their team speed but they have a little more skill than Fulton,” said Alicia Phillips, head coach of the Lady Dragons.
“We played a really great basketball game but turnovers and missed box outs in the fourth quarter hurt us,” Phillips continued.
Burton led all scorers with 27 points while Burroughs added 10 points.
