Northview ends Lady Dragons’ season
The postseason run for the Clinton Lady Dragons came to an end Friday night at Northview Academy with a 71-57 loss.
Northview claimed an 18-11 lead in the first quarter as Sydney Herrell and Allie York each dropped in a 3-pointer and Sarah Burton added five points for the Lady Dragons.
Herrell and York each added another trey in the second as Belle Starnes and Ashanti Davis joined Burton in the quarter scoring column. Despite their efforts, Clinton trailed 36-25 at the half.
Burton, Starnes, and Herrell added 3-pointers in the third quarter, but the Lady Cougars built a 55-41 lead.
Bailey Burroughs joined the scoring with a couple of baskets in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Dragons could not cut into the Northview lead.
“This group is special,” said Alicia Phillips, head coach of the Lady Dragons. “They have grown leaps and bounds since Day 1 and have been one of the hardest-working groups I’ve ever coached.
“I’m excited about the future,” she said. “We have such a talented young group of freshmen, and now it’s going to be up to them to build on what we did.”
Burton, a Miss Basketball finalist, led all scorers with 21 points.
Burton, Starnes, and Autumn Hill ended their high school careers Friday night.
Phillps thanked them for their four years with the Lady Dragons.
“I was honored to be such a small part of your lives,” she said. “I love you three. Always know we have your back and are praying for you.”
