Halls Red Devils proving to be cream of the district

Anderson County loses trio of games to HHS squad in span of four days

Anderson County’s Diamond Mavs lost a trio of games to the district’s cream of the crop Hall High School April 11, 12, and 14.

In the April 11 game, the Red Devils took a hard-fought 5-2 win, not really getting any breathing space until the final frame.

The Mavs, down 1-0 in the third inning, got two runs when Luke Lowery and Haden Hartgrove scored on RBI from Lowery (plating Haden Hartgrove) and Hunter Hartgrove (plating Lowery).

In the April 12 game, Anderson County held a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Halls scored three to take the win.

The Mavs scored two in the first frame, three in the fourth, and one in run in the fifth and sixth innings. The Hartgrove twins, Haden and Hunter, each tallied two RBI, and Bryson Wolfenbarger notched two as well.

Aydin Bond, Wyatt Cox, Wolfenbarger, Lane Fletcher, Luke Lowery, and the Hartgroves all scored in the game.

Bond took the tough-luck loss.

In the series finale at home on April 14, Halls pushed across five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-6 win.

Anderson County trailed 9-5 in the home half of the frame, but only managed one run to make the final score.

Luke Lowery and Logan Housewright each knocked in two TBI. Thor Williams and Bryson Wolfenbarger each had an RBI.

Lowery also scored three of the Mavs’ runs. Williams, Wolfenbarger and Haden Hartgrove each scored a run.

Following the Mountain Valley Classic, the Mavs ran into trouble with Northview Academy, April 19, and Oak Ridge, April 22, in non-district contests.

Northview blanked the Mavs 6-0, who notched only one hit and four walks.

Playing at Oak Ridge, Anderson County’s seventh-inning comeback attempt fell short by a run. Trailing 11-8, the Mavs got two, but that wasn’t enough.

Hunter Hartgrove racked up three RBI in the game. Bryson Wolfenberger and Lane Fletcher added two RBI each, and Wyatt Cox and Logan Housewright each tallied one RBI.

Cox and Trent Strickland crossed home twice, while Hunter Hartgrove, Thor Williams, Luke Lowery, and Housewright each scored a run.
