Democratic Women’s Club will host education meeting at Oak Ridge Marina
The Democratic Women’s Club will host a meeting on education on May 16 at the Oak Ridge Marina
State Rep. Gloria Johnson and Jim Dodson, candidate for state representative in District 33, will discuss education with the Anderson County Democratic Women’s Club at 5:30 p.m.
The club will meet at the pavilion at the Oak Ridge Marina on Melton Lake Drive.
Johnson is serving her third term in the state legislature representing Knoxville’s District 13.
She retired from Knox County Schools after 27 years of experience educating special-needs children.
She is an advocate for high-quality, well-resourced public schools and for expanding Medicaid to ensure health care for everyone who needs it.
She supported the Community Schools Act in the 108th General Assembly, authorizing local school districts to work with community partners to improve schools that are struggling.
Dodson, a member of Oak Ridge City Council since 2016, is seeking to continue his public service in the state legislature.
An art teacher at Jefferson Middle School in Oak Ridge for 35 years, Dodson is active in several community organizations. He is now board chair of ADFAC (Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties), and he co-chaired the 2015 United Way Campaign.
Dodson is past president of Tennessee Arts Education Association, and he served as president of the Oak Ridge Education Association.
Light snacks will be served at the meeting.
