Mavs take two of three from Dragons

Last Tuesday, the Clinton Dragons got a 7-6 win over visiting district and crosstown rival Anderson County.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Mavs tied the score in the bottom of second. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the top of the fourth, when Clinton scored four runs to take a 5-1 lead. The Mavs answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Anderson County took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth but the Dragons scored two runs in the seventh to get the win.

Blake Lowe picked up the win in relief. He pitched two innings and struck out four with a walk. He was 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI at the plate.

For Clinton, Eli Ellis went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Connor Moody, Garrett Lee, and Harrison Shelton each had a hit and an RBI, while Isaiah Slaven added a RBI.

Aydin Bond took the loss. He pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. At the plate, he was 1-3 with an RBI.

For the Mavs, Wyatt Cox went 1-4 with two RBI, while Thor Williams and Lane Fletcher were each 1-3 with an RBI. Bryson Wolfenbarger, Hayden Hartgrove, Hudson Hartgrove, and Logan Housewright each had a hit.

Last Thursday, the Mavs visited the Dragons and picked up a 12-2 win.

After the Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Anderson County exploded for six runs in the top of the second and didn’t stop scoring for a couple of innings.

The Mavs added one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Hayden Hartgrove got the win. He pitched five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. At the plate, he was 3-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Not to be outdone, Thor Williams was 2-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Housewright went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Bond finished 1-2.

Ethan Tinker took the loss. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

For Clinton, Lee went 2-3 with an RBI. Ellis was 1-2 with an RBI. Moody was 1-3.

Last Friday, the Mavs took the rubber game over the visiting Dragons by a score of 7-4.

Clinton scored a run in the top of the first, but Anderson County responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Dragons added a run in the top of the second, but the Mavs scored two in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

The Dragons added a run in the third and one in the fifth.

Wyatt Cox got the win for Anderson County.

He pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and three walks. He was 1-2 at the plate.

For the Mavs, Luke Lowery was 1-2 with a triple, while Hudson Hartgrove was 2-4 with a double and three RBI. Hayden Hartgrove was 2-3 with a double and two RBI.

Housewright was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Shelton took the loss. He allowed four earned runs on four hits.

For the Dragons, Lowe, Moody, Slaven, Tinker and Sam Railey each collected a hit.

The Dragons wrap up the regular season with a game at Union County on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Mavs wrap up the regular season with a home game against McMinn Central at 6 p.m. Thursday.
