Burton and Henderson chosen for East team in all-star game

Sarah Burton and Makenzie Henderson may play for rival schools — Clinton High and Anderson County High — but both were selected for the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association East Tennessee all-star squad.

Henderson, a standout pitcher for the Anderson County High School Lady Mavs, and Burton, a slugging second baseman for the Clinton High School Lady Dragons, were on the East Tennessee TSCA team that swept Middle and West Tennessee teams June 14.

The East Tennessee squad beat the Middle Tennessee All-Stars 2-0, then notched an 11-0 win over West Tennessee 11-0.

Both Burton and Henderson have been selected for the all-star games against Kentucky, which will be played June 28.

Henderson signed a letter of intent to play softball for East Tennessee State University.

Henderson was also selected as the East Tennessee “Player of the Year” following the in-state tournamnet sweep.

Burton inked scholarship papers with the University of Virginia - Wise, to play basketball.
