Clinton has a new Asian-food restaurant, Sora Sushi and Steak House, which opened last week in the former location of Fuji Asian Cuisine at 902 N. Charles G. Seivers Blvd.

The restaurant, in the same shopping center as Master Donuts, opened its doors and displayed a sign that said, “Soft Opening.”

It features a long list of sushi and sashimi items, along with hibachi steak, chicken and seafood dishes and bento boxes.

The owner is Leo Pan, who has a long history as a sushi chef in the United States, and trained under master Japanese sushi experts, according to restaurant manager Mia Cheng.

“He has decades of sushi experience,” Cheng said.

She said Pan bought the business from the previous owner of Fuji, who is a friend of his. He then oversaw a major remodeling of the interior of the restaurant, adding the sushi bar at the south end of the building, and more dining tables.

“We remodeled everything to make more space and more comfort for our customers,” Cheng said.

The meat, seafood and vegetables used in the restaurant’s dishes are all fresh, not frozen, and Sora makes its own sauces and salad dressings in house, Cheng said.

“We will be adding beer, wine and sake later,” she said, as soon as the proper licenses can be obtained.

Sora is open every day except Tuesday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4-9:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon-9:30 p.m. Sunday. Lunch specials are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Sunday. The dinner menu is served all day on Sunday.
