County’s ‘Grillmasters’ excel at fair


Members of Anderson County’s 4-H Grillmasters excelled in regional competition. The junior high team earned first-place honors. The senior high team took 2nd place honors and will advance to state competition in October.
Anderson County’s 4-H Grillmasters team members excelled in regional competition, held on Saturday, Aug. 27, in Gray as part of the Appalachian Fair.

In the contest, members demonstrated food and fire safety as they grilled an attractive and delicious cut of beef, lamb, pork or poultry using a charcoal grill. Each team member grilled a different type of meat.

To hone their skills, members practiced throughout August at Mountain View Park. Food City generously supported the team as they prepared for regional competition.

Anderson County’s team excelled in the contest, earning 1st place honors in the junior high division and second place honors in the senior high division. In addition to team honors, members also earned individual honors as follows:

Junior high team members are:

• 1st – Luke Baldwin (beef)

• 1st – Coy Tomlinson (pork)

• 2nd – Lydia Calhoun (lamb)

• 4th– Michael Manis (poultry)

Senior High:

• 1st – Tony Belejack (chicken)

• 2nd – Samuel Alvis (pork)

• 5th – Isaac Phillips (beef)

• 10th - Matthew Manis (lamb)
