Clinton XC posts competitive times

In their second competition of the 2022 season, the Clinton High School cross country teams posted some competitive times. The Dragons and Lady Dragons were in action at the Cherokee Classic at Knoxville’s Cherokee Farms Park.

Clinton’s boys had three competitors as the Dragons’ top two runners, Ethan Ortiz and Noah Ortiz, missed the meet as they were competing in a tournament for the Clinton High School fishing team.

On a rainy Saturday, Clinton’s top male finisher was Caleb Holt. He completed the 5K course in 20 minutes, 47 seconds. Buford Watson crossed the finish line in 25:44. Gavin Clock posted a time of 25:46.

The Lady Dragons had six competitors Saturday. Ali Holifield was Clinton’s top finisher as she completed the race in 25 minutes, 52 seconds. Juliet Avila posted a time of 26:23. Marissa Winter finished in 29:22. Summer Wilson recorded a time of 30:37 and Natalie McLemore finished in 35:47.

“We had some good times for our first 5K race,” Clinton coach Tim Kumes said.

The Dragons and Lady Dragons will return to action Saturday as they make another trip to Knoxville to compete at Johnson University.

Both Clinton’s meets this season have been at Cherokee Farms in 2022, a flat course,

The Clinton teams will face a different challenge as the course at Johnson University is hilly.

“We’re going to be running hills this week in practice,” Kumes said.
