Bentz playing in state golf tourney this week
Wildcats sophomore Jack Bentz will be in the field on the state’s grand stage at Sevierville Golf Club.
The two-day, 36-hole event will be contested Thursday and Friday. It is being held in East Tennessee this season after being in Manchester in past years.
Bentz qualified for the state tournament by posting a 2-over 74 in the Region 2-AA championship at Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa.
Bentz finished the regional tied for second with Bearden’s Bryce Harmon.
Halls High’s Ethan Whitaker, a junior, claimed low medalist honors in Alcoa as he fired a 5-under 67, leading the Red Devils to the region title and an automatic team berth at state.
Oak Ridge coach Scott Hinton, in his first season with the Wildcats, was pleased with Bentz’ showing in Blount County and overall during the 2022 campaign.
“He’s played really well throughout the summer and in the fall,” Hinton said of Bentz. “He was 3-under through 12 (holes at the region championships) and then he had a hiccup.”
Bentz will tee off at 10:12 a.m. Thursday in Sevierville
