Lady Wildcats enter volleyball tourney as No. 2 seed
Oak Ridge High School’s volleyball team closed out the 2022 regular season with a District 3-AAA victory over Campbell County on Wednesday, Sept 28.
The Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Cougars 25-17, 23-25, 26-24, 25-18.
Lily Wassu had 21 kills for Oak Ridge, which after being perched atop the district standings for most of the campaign, will be the second seed in the postseason tournament.
It opens today (Oct. 5) at Karns High School.
The Lady Wildcats will play No. 7 Knoxville Central today at 7:30 p.m.
ORHS fell to the Lady Beavers in three sets on Monday, Sept. 26.
That loss, combined with West High’s three-set victory at Clinton last week, netted the Lady Rebels the tournament’s top seed.
Kylan Burger had 13 kills for Oak Ridge against Campbell County.
Nike Edmonson added eight kills and one block. Peyton Uptgraft, the Oak Ridge setter, dished out 38 assists.
Defensively, Marissa Kenworthy had 16 digs and Lily Shelton added 11.
District tournament seeds: West has the top seed, followed by the Lady Wildcats, Clinton, Karns, Campbell County, Halls, Knoxville Central and Powell.
