For the love of the game

THE SOCCER CLUB OF OAK RIDGE
The Soccer Club of Oak Ridge is an area youth club in the Tennessee State Soccer Association for both boys and girls. It’s open to athletes starting at age 3 and has teams all the way up to U-19.

The president of the club is Elise Morris and the vice president is Donnie Green, who also coaches the Oak Ridge High School girls soccer team.

It has an academy for players ages 3-8.

All of SCOR’s coaches are licensed.

“When I came in as vice president, I wanted to make the club what it used to be, along with our president, Elise Morris,” Green said. “I was involved with the club when my daughter played.”

Upon his return to the club, which serves Anderson, Roane, Morgan, Loudon and Knox counties, Green found that the club fielded just six teams. It now has 14 teams. Green coaches the 2011 (U-12) Lady Mustangs.

That team is currently ranked third in Tennessee and boasts a 19-0-2 record, and is among the nation’s Top 50 teams, holding a No. 47 ranking in the country.

While SCOR pulls largely from Oak Ridge and the surrounding area, Green’s U-12 Lady Mustangs have a player who commutes from McMinn County.

“To show what kinds of things are happening at SCOR, I have a girl from Athens on my team,” Green said. “She comes to our games and she comes up here to practice twice a week.”

The club’s academy is open to young players.

“We have an academy for players 3-8, and all of our coaches, including the coaches in our academy, are licensed,” Green said. “Our numbers are up.”

SCOR has a number of successful teams in a multitude of age ranges, including a boys side that is highly competitive in the United States Soccer Federation.

The club is currently seeking players.
